Think about it - both of them are the magic chicks in their group and are good at getting the boys to do what they want >D IMAGINE THEM TEAMING UP TO USE THEIR FORCES FOR GOOD! NO ONE COULD STAND IN THEIR WAY.

But Rinoa likes Aerith! She sees her as very similar to herself in a lot of ways, and getting to spend more time with her would always be wonderful.
